Important Update on the Future of GGMC

Please take a moment to read the message below, written on behalf of the GGMC Board of Directors, regarding the future of the Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative (GGMC).

I write to inform you of an important decision regarding the future of GGMC, following careful reflection and discussion by the Board.

After more than a decade of dedicated work advancing the integration of genomics into healthcare globally, we have decided to formally dissolve the legal entity of GGMC. This decision was not made lightly, but rather in recognition of the natural evolution of our work and the growing maturity of the initiatives we helped to launch.

The remaining assets of GGMC will be transferred to two of its most vibrant and impactful initiatives: the International Health Cohorts Consortium (IHCC) and the Global Genomic Medicine Consortium (G2MC). These consortia will continue to function as voluntary, collaborative networks, carrying forward the mission and spirit of GGMC.

GGMC leadership has initiated the dissolution process, collaborating with the co-chairs of IHCC and G2MC to ensure a smooth transfer of GGMC’s assets. The leadership of both consortia will meet to chart a shared path forward, ensuring continuity and renewed focus.

On a personal note, I wish to thank everyone in the GGMC community for their steadfast commitment to GGMC since we first came together in January 2014, at the memorable meeting arranged by Geoffrey Ginsburg. Your passion, insight, and collaboration have shaped a decade of meaningful progress.

Although GGMC as a legal entity will be concluding its journey, I am confident that our shared values and collective energy will live on—evolving, and perhaps even transforming, into something stronger and more impactful in the years to come.

With deep appreciation,

Professor Vajira Dissanayake
