The Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative (G2MC) was formed from the 2014 Global Leaders in Genomic Medicine Summit which was sponsored by the US National Human Genome Research Institute and the Institute of Medicine (now the National Academy of Medicine).

About 60 leaders from 25 nations were at the inaugural meeting and several working groups were formed to initiate ideas and dialogue on the common and unique country-specific challenges to implementation as well as solutions. This first meeting’s findings were summarized in a policy paper published in Science Translational Medicine.
