G2MC Flagship Projects

Family Health History

By better understanding the needs in each individual country, the Family Health History (FHH) Flagship Project aims to promote the benefits of family health history for patient self-knowledge, family sharing, public screening, pre-screening for genetic testing in a clinical setting, and research.  Learn More →

  • Assist champion healthcare providers in determining local and country-wide family health history needs and capabilities.
  • Identify various methods for obtaining family health history data which best fit local needs and capabilities.
  • Adopt data standards for wide-scale data input and sharing.
  • Investigate available risk assessment algorithms to determine best clinical application.
  • Combine family health history with clinical, genomic, and environmental data to create new knowledge for patient care.

Clinical Forums

The Clinical Forums Flagship Project aims to enhance the diagnosis, prognostication, and treatment of genetic disorders through deep genetic insights, with the mission to spearhead innovative research and translate discoveries into practical medical advancements. This involves collaboration with G2MC members, pharmaceutical entities, and patient advocacy groups to foster the application of research findings into clinical settings.

This project aims to enable LMICs around the world to implement genome and exome sequencing as a routine service to patients when clinically indicated, but more specifically supporting children with rare undiagnosed genetic disorders.

  • Based on results from the funded six-site pilot project, develop and implement the project to include more LMIC sites from around the world.
  • Evaluation of clinical outcomes, provider and patient satisfaction, ethical, social and legal implications, and cost-effectiveness of the intervention.
  • Training of local clinicians in genomic medicine in genetic evaluation, result interpretation, and pre and post-test counseling.

Given the complexity of epilepsy, effective management strategies are crucial. These strategies must include a comprehensive understanding of the condition and personalized treatment plans. A key element of this approach is strong collaboration among healthcare professionals. The objectives of this group are:

  • To assess current practices by evaluating how genetic testing and insights are currently utilized in epilepsy management.
  • To identify gaps by exploring areas where integration of genetic information is lacking in clinical practice.
  • To evaluate multi-disciplinary collaboration by understanding how different specialists contribute to the management of genetic epilepsy.
  • To support members in implementing genomic epilepsy clinics in their countries.

GGMC Working Groups and Committees

G2MC’s parent organization, the Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative (GGMC), has the following functional groups that operate across all of GGMC’s programs.

Resource Center Working Group

The Resource Center Working Group creates and maintains the “GGMC Resource Center” as a central hub, listing genomic medicine research and implementation resources and tools.

  • Design and maintain the Resource Center infrastructure.
  • Determine how genomic medicine tools and resources are identified, screened (vetting process), shared, and updated in the GGMC Resource Center.
  • Populate the Resource Center with up-to-date and advanced resources.
  • Set and evaluate progress on objectives.

Member Projects Working Group

The Member Projects Working Group facilitates collaborations in genomic medicine research and implementation by connecting members with one another and with external partners to develop and support projects. The group fosters partnerships, mentorship, and support to advance projects with the potential to improve global health.

  • Develop and manage the Project Navigator and Support Network, a key benefit offered through the GGMC Membership Initiative in which members may submit a local project in need of resources.
  • Utilize Project Navigators to respond to project submissions, helping match the project with subject matter experts and other resources.
  • Monitor the program, making improvements and enhancements over time.

Conference Planning Working Group (Ad-Hoc)

Participants of the Conference Planning Working Group will support the scientific organization of conferences and convenings.

  • Plan and produce all-member convenings, including in-person and virtual conferences, including the selection of the conference theme, subthemes, speakers, and the planning of the Early Career Investigator (ECI) Forum sessions.
  • Set and evaluate progress on objectives.

Workforce and Training Committee

The Workforce and Training Committee focuses on developing and training the next generation of genomic medicine professionals.

  • Assess genomic medicine workforce needs, capabilities, and competencies.
  • Design genomic medicine educational and training resources to benefit researchers and healthcare professionals.
  • Foster the development of the next generation of leaders in genomic medicine through mentorship.
  • Coordinate with other GGMC working groups to address educational and training needs related to their missions.
  • Connect with other organizations involved in genomic medicine education and training.

Policy and Advocacy Committee

The Policy and Advocacy Committee assembles the needs of our members in order to create, share, and advocate for the integration of policies that support the implementation of genomic medicine across the globe.

  • Identify priority policy areas relevant to our members individually for their country and those that are global.
  • Craft policy statements and perspectives relative to these identified priority areas to influence and integrate into state/federal/country policies through outreach to Ministries of Health, local healthcare leadership, and other organizations of influence, such as industry.
  • Craft statements and other responses that are relevant to current events.
  • Ensure the implementation of these priority policy areas within our consortia activities.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee helps foster a supportive environment in which colleagues from diverse backgrounds and demographics can excel.

  • Assess the meaning of DEI to our members and how it is being addressed.
  • Ongoing review of the following activities (not a comprehensive list) to ensure they incorporate the spirit of the DEI statement:

    • Publications that are generated by GGMC-sponsored activities.
    • Design of research studies sponsored or fostered by the GGMC.
    • Metrics of diversity – organizational leadership, membership, and participation in collaborative research activities.

Functional Groups Organizational Chart

Previous Working Groups

G2MC was originally made up of three Working Groups: Education, Evidence, and Policy. Each group made significant contributions to G2MC, leading to the success and growth of the organization. In 2022, as part of the G2MC Strategic Planning process and as a result of the organization’s continued growth, these groups were dissolved in order to leverage their contributions at a higher level across the parent organization, the Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative
