Knowing your family’s health history can unlock the secrets to better health, and the Family Health History (FHH) Flagship Project is leading the way! The project is gaining momentum with new publications, global collaborations, and innovative approaches to integrate family history into personalized care. The following initiatives are currently underway:
- The team is currently focused on finalizing two manuscripts for publication, one detailing the 11-step process for implementing FHH in clinical practice and another exploring the role of FHH in addressing hemoglobinopathies.
- To streamline work, the FHH Flagship Project group has been establishing subgroups focused on key areas like manuscript development, hemoglobinopathies, data analysis, and local FHH surveys.
- A new initiative to develop and deliver local FHH webinars is also underway. The first joint webinar took place in October in conjunction with the Centre for Molecular Biosciences and Medical Genomics (CMBMG), University of Medical Sciences, Ondo City, Nigeria. These webinars will allow for greater accessibility and engagement with healthcare professionals globally.
- The establishment of a pharmacogenomics subgroup is also underway, which will focus on combining pharmacogenomics data with family medical history to improve drug efficacy and safety, especially in settings where genetic testing is limited.
Increased Collaboration and Local Initiatives
In recent months, the FHH Flagship Project has placed a strong emphasis on improving team collaboration and expanding the reach of FHH initiatives. Subgroups have been established to facilitate focused work and efficient progress on specific tasks. The team is actively seeking funding opportunities and exploring potential avenues for manuscript publication. The development of local FHH webinars and the identification of local champions are key priorities to promote the importance of FHH globally. The project is also dedicated to creating a comprehensive resource center for FHH information and tools, including an algorithm database repository.
We encourage all G2MC members interested in FHH to join the project and contribute their expertise and insights.
